Healthy Food for the Whole Family
“When you get salmon, it doesn’t come with a whole list of ingredients. It’s just salmon.
It is what it is – a healthy protein for families,” says Sierra’s dad, Dean Anderson.
This video shares more about how we support Alaska’s wild, natural, and sustainable fisheries. Here is a glimpse into the world of our family’s fishing operation.
“The freshest tasting seafood is that which has been frozen shortly after harvest and remains that way until cooked.” – Jane Brody, NY Times Nutrition
Our salmon is FRESH frozen vacuum sealed and will stay sushi fresh for up to 2 years. Freshness is rated by the time it takes between when it is caught and when it is processed.
Frozen Alaska salmon is rapidly chilled and flash frozen at the time of harvest to maintain the highest quality, maximize purity and taste and make meal planning even easier.
Incredibly versatile and delicious Alaska seafood can be prepared using a range of techniques from smoking and grilling to roasting, sauteing, baking, or poaching.
Cooking is made easy when you can dish up a meal in half the time. For simple easy instructions and ideas on how to prepare your fish frozen and in as little as 15 minutes without ever thawing, check out these cooking tips on our cooking page HERE.ORder now
All Alaska seafood is wild and sustainable, and it is managed for protection against overfishing, habitat damage, and pollution. In fact, record breaking seasons prove that Alaska’s management practices work and remains to this day the global model for sustainable fisheries management.
Every fishery is managed a little differently, but with supreme accuracy and preservation in mind.
In Chignik we have what is called a weir which is an underwater gate with underwater cameras. During the season fishery biologists will live at this location and count every fish going up river to spawn.
Once the biologists reach their “escapement goals” (a number that is in place to insure a plentiful harvest for seasons to come) in an allotted time period, they will open up fishing for hours, days, or weeks at a time. Fisherman will thus be fishing for the fish that is “left over” after a certain number of other fish have escaped up river. Fishing will open and close throughout the season accordingly.
Alaska’s vast land, water resources, and diverse habitats support healthy and abundant fish and wildlife. With more than three million lakes, 12,000+ rivers, and more coastline than the rest of the U.S. put together, Alaska’s virtually untouched waters produce seafood that is pure and remarkably free of contamination.
Feeding on marine organisms from Alaska’s icy pure waters, Alaska seafood is natural and provides healthy nutrients straight from the source.
According to USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, eating seafood regularly, or a minimum of twice a week can help protect against heart disease.
How? Seafood contains vital omega-3 fatty acids, something that cannot be emulated in any other food source on the planet. These unique “good-for-you” fats guard against heart attacks and ensure a well-functioning heart.
To keep hearts healthy the USDA recommends eating eight ounces of seafood per week, which is equivalent to two four-ounce servings.
As a source for great-tasting nutrition, wild Alaska seafood delivers.
